Milani Tessuti to close in Brescia after 438 years
Milani Tessuti, a historic fabric shop in Brescia, Italy, will permanently close on December 31, 2026. The business, located on Corso Goffredo Mameli, marks the end of a family commercial tradition that dates back to 1588.
Giorgio Massenza Milani, the final family representative leading the shop, cited several challenges driving the decision. These include the transformation of the clothing market, the decline of traditional tailoring, and shifts in consumer habits toward industrial clothing and online shopping.
While the business officially holds a regional historical recognition dating to 1925, its family roots in the textile trade span over four centuries. Despite a brief interruption during World War I, the shop remained a central fixture for tailors, families, and brides seeking high-quality materials for custom garments.
