Milano Cortina 2026 preparations and Olympic cauldron debate

Preparations for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics are underway, with Rai announcing extensive coverage including 250 hours of live television broadcasting. The games, scheduled from February 6 to 22, will focus on sustainability and the theme of “Bellezza in movimento” (Beauty in motion).

Discussions are also emerging regarding the permanent placement of the Olympic cauldron in Milan. One proposal suggests locating the cauldron at the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, Milan’s oldest museum, or in the adjacent Piazza Pio XI. This idea follows previous suggestions to place the symbol at locations such as Milano Centrale, the Navigli district, CityLife, or the former Olympic Village. Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala has previously expressed a desire for the tripod to remain in Milan, potentially within a museum setting.
