Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics praised by 72% of Italians
A study conducted by Istituto Piepoli in collaboration with WePlan, presented at the Italian Senate, reveals that 72% of Italians view the overall organization of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics favorably. The research highlights the success of the decentralized model, with 79% of respondents approving of the decision to distribute events across multiple locations and 77% noting that the use of established venues contributed to competition quality.
The findings suggest the organizational model serves as a viable reference for future Italian bids for major sporting, cultural, or exhibition events. Economically, 76% of Italians believe the Games had a significant impact on the national economy, with equal percentages recognizing benefits for local territories regarding tourism, employment, and development.
International implications are also noted, as the International Olympic Committee (IOC) final report indicates the use of 85% existing or temporary venues and an economic impact exceeding 5 billion euros. This model is cited as a potential example for future host projects, including the French Alps 2030, Switzerland 2038, and the New York-Lake Placid 2042 proposals.
