Milano memorial for justice witness Lea Garofalo vandalized

A memorial inscription in Milan's Piazza Prealpi dedicated to Lea Garofalo, a justice witness murdered by the 'ndrangheta in 2009, has been vandalized. The original phrase, “Vedo, sento, parlo come Lea” (I see, I hear, I speak like Lea), was altered with spray paint to read: “Non vedo, non sento, non parlo come Leao,” a reference to a former AC Milan football player.

City councilor Alessandro Giungi reported the incident, noting the heightened emotional impact following the recent death of Denise Cosco, Lea Garofalo's daughter, who took her own life on September 10. The inscription was originally created by students from the Puechere middle school to honor Garofalo's decision to collaborate with the judiciary after leaving a criminal background.

Giulia Pelucchi, president of Municipio 8, announced that upcoming initiatives involving schools and local associations will be organized to restore the writing and hold a moment of remembrance for both Lea Garofalo and her daughter.
