MİLDEN Project reaches milestone with domestic submarine steel production
Turkey has reached a critical milestone in the MİLDEN National Submarine Project with the completion of domestic steel production. Plate and profile steels required for the construction of the nation's first indigenous submarine were produced through a collaboration between OYAK companies Erdemir and Miilux OY.
The construction of the project's first test block has been completed at the Gölcük Shipyard using this 100% domestic steel. The test block is currently being showcased at the TEKNOFEST Mavi Vatan event. The steel components, including both the outer plating and the internal skeletal profiles, were manufactured at Miilux OY's facilities in Manisa.
This development is viewed as a strategic step toward reducing foreign dependency in the defense industry. Miilux OY has stated that it will continue to supply the necessary hull steel according to the production schedule once the initial production phase transitions into mass production.
