Mile Svilar faces international football impasse

Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar is currently unable to represent a national team due to FIFA eligibility regulations. Although born in Belgium and having played for Belgian youth national teams from U15 to U21, Svilar debuted for the Serbian senior national team in a 2021 friendly against Qatar.

Following that single appearance, Svilar expressed a desire to return to the Belgian national team. However, FIFA rules prevent him from changing his national allegiance after playing a senior match for Serbia. Consequently, he remains excluded from international competition, as Belgium was unable to secure permission for his return and former Serbian coach Dragan Stojković indicated he would no longer be called up.
