Milena Apostolaki raises concerns over debt interest calculation implementation

Milena Apostolaki, a PASOK-Movement for Change MP, has raised concerns regarding the implementation of a recent Supreme Court decision concerning interest rate calculations for loans under Law 3869/2010. In a formal inquiry addressed to Minister of National Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Apostolaki highlighted significant malfunctions in how debt management companies are applying the ruling.

According to Apostolaki, thousands of debtors are facing uncertainty as they struggle to obtain accurate information regarding their new debt totals and monthly installment amounts. While the Supreme Court's decision (No. 6/2026) was intended to trigger an immediate and uniform adjustment of obligations, many debtors report that electronic systems still display outdated installment figures.

Apostolaki criticized what she termed “government inertia” in ensuring the swift and unified application of the ruling. She warned that the appearance of overdue or unpaid amounts due to these technical discrepancies could jeopardize the judicial protections afforded to compliant debtors. She called for the government to ensure that every debtor receives detailed, personalized, and written notification of their updated financial obligations.
