MILeNa project launches to address STEM teacher shortages in Germany

The MILeNa project (STEM Teacher Recruitment) has launched in Germany to address the urgent shortage of teachers in mathematics, informatics, natural sciences, and technology (STEM/MINT) subjects. The initiative provides students from the 10th grade and above with practical experience in the teaching profession through a combination of school-based assistance and university workshops.

In Rhineland-Palatinate, the IGS Johanna Loewenherz has been selected as one of only six pioneer schools to participate in the program. The project aims to foster interest in teaching careers while developing essential skills such as presentation, communication, and didactics.

Participants also engage in activities at various institutions, including the University of Duisburg-Essen, where kickoff events include networking and team-building exercises, and the University of Münster, where students learn about effective instructional methods. The program serves as both a practical internship and a career orientation tool for future educators.
