Andalusia political crisis over gender violence competencies and SAS legal cases

In Andalusia, the transfer of competencies related to gender-based violence protection to the political party Vox has sparked a major institutional crisis. Spanish Equality Minister Ana Redondo has demanded explanations from President Juanma Moreno, warning that the decision could jeopardize state funds allocated to fight violence against women.

The transfer specifically includes the Integral Forensic Assessment Units (UVFIs), which are responsible for evaluating risks for victims of gender violence. Critics argue that entrusting these specialized services to a party that denies the existence of gender-based violence poses a significant risk to victim safety and protection standards.

Separately, the Andalusian High Prosecutor's Office has archived the final two criminal cases concerning the breast cancer screening failures within the Andalusian Health Service (SAS). While the criminal proceedings have ended, the legal path for victims to seek civil compensation for the healthcare failures remains open.
