Mileto B&B explosion kills Slovenian tourist, leaves wife and daughter critical
A Slovenian family vacationing in Calabria has been struck by tragedy following an explosion at the Villa Mary B&B in Mileto on August 25. Yamnik Cobolt Petra, a 46-year-old man, died in Palermo after being treated for severe burns.
The explosion, which occurred around 20:30 while the family was preparing for dinner, triggered a fire and caused significant structural damage to the building, including a partial collapse of the ground floor. The victim's 44-year-old wife and 10-year-old daughter both sustained second and third-degree burns over more than 30% of their bodies. They remain in critical condition at specialized medical centers in Catania and Bari.
Investigators are currently examining a gas cylinder as a potential cause of the blast. The Vibo Valentia Prosecutor's Office has placed the B&B under seizure as part of the ongoing investigation. During the initial emergency, two off-duty Carabinieri staying at the B&B provided immediate assistance to the family.
