Mileva Marić Einstein memorial house opens in Ruma

The renovated Marić family house in Ruma, Serbia, has been transformed into a memorial house dedicated to the life and work of physicist and mathematician Mileva Marić Einstein. The site is now open to visitors, featuring a permanent exhibition divided into three thematic sections.

The exhibition covers Marić Einstein’s global and Serbian significance, the Marić family life in Ruma with a focus on her brother Miloš Marić, and the scientific collaboration between Mileva and Albert Einstein. Historians continue to discuss her contributions to Einstein’s early work, noting that the couple referred to their scientific efforts as ‘our work’ in correspondence.

Provincial government President Maja Gojković visited the site, noting that the province dedicated the previous year to marking the 150th anniversary of Marić Einstein’s birth. The project aims to highlight her legacy as a pioneering female student at the Zurich Polytechnic and her scientific impact beyond her role as Einstein’s first wife.
