Miley Cyrus’s ‘Bass Persuades’ hits record Billboard chart drop

Miley Cyrus’s new album, ‘Bass Persuades’, has set a Billboard record for the largest second-week drop from a No. 1 debut by a female artist. After debuting at the top of the Billboard 200 with approximately 61,000 units, the album plummeted to No. 157 in its second week.

The album, which is Cyrus’s first release under Atlantic Records and her first as a mononym, narrowly beat country singer Ella Langley’s ‘Dandelion’ by roughly 70 units during its debut week. To secure the top spot, Atlantic Records employed an aggressive sales strategy involving discounted digital prices and numerous physical editions, including 16 vinyl variants and multiple CD and cassette versions.

This decline surpasses previous records held by Madonna, whose album ‘Madame X’ fell from No. 1 to No. 77 in 2019, and Celine Dion, whose ‘Courage’ dropped from No. 1 to No. 111. While the album’s chart performance has struggled, Cyrus continues to see high demand for live performances, with nearly 1.5 million fans joining the presale queue for her upcoming shows at the Hollywood Bowl.
