Military doctor in Peristeri accused of being poisoned by ex-wife
A 41-year-old military doctor from Peristeri, Greece, has accused his estranged wife of systematically poisoning him with atropine. The doctor reported that the substance was allegedly added to his food and water at home, leading to multiple hospitalizations, including three stays in a psychiatric clinic and one in a medical ward where he required intubation.
For months, the doctor believed he was suffering from a mental illness, which caused him significant professional distress regarding his ability to perform his duties. He has since transferred to a less demanding role within an air force unit to manage his health. The doctor noted that his suspicions were heightened after experiencing sudden symptoms following a meal at a restaurant.
In addition to his own health struggles, the doctor mentioned that his mother also experienced symptoms such as intense dry mouth, confusion, and disorientation, though no definitive evidence has confirmed she was also poisoned. The couple has been separated since September 2024, with a consensual divorce issued in February 2025. The doctor is currently awaiting official laboratory results to determine if other substances, such as hyoscyamine or scopolamine, were also used.
