Military experts analyze Russian drone sites and US Air Force flight to Moscow

Recent reports regarding Russian drone launch sites have sparked concerns about potential threats to Europe, including Latvia. However, military reserve colonel Igors Rajevs suggests these fears may be exaggerated. He notes that while Russian long-range drones can theoretically reach European territory, current launch positions are primarily oriented toward Ukraine or located near Belarus, suggesting no immediate preparations for an attack on Europe. Rajevs also pointed out that these stationary launch sites are more vulnerable than mobile missile systems like the Iskander.

Separately, a US Air Force Boeing C-17 Globemaster III aircraft, which had previously landed in Riga, recently landed at Moscow's Vnukovo Airport. Expert Artis Pabriks speculated that the flight might involve the repatriation of a US citizen previously detained in Russia. Pabriks noted that such movements can sometimes resemble historical intelligence exchanges. Historian Gatis Krūmiņš remarked that the aircraft's use of Riga as a stopover demonstrates NATO allies' trust in Latvia's ability to provide logistical support.
