Military Fatality in Conakry Floods Highlights Severe Rainstorm
Heavy rains that struck Conakry on 3 August 2026 caused extensive flooding in several districts. In the Gbessia commune, Adjudant‑chef Joseph Oularé, a professional soldier, was swept away by fast‑rising runoff near the entrance of the Alpha Yaya Diallo camp. After several hours of searching, his body was recovered at Gbessia Port 1 and transferred to the Sino‑Guinean hospital for forensic examination.
Local officials, including vice‑mayor Djibril Firawa Touré, confirmed the incident and reiterated weather alerts warning of further flood risks. The tragedy adds to the growing death toll from the storm, which has also damaged property and disrupted daily life across Conakry’s most vulnerable neighborhoods.
