Military forces deploy advanced counter-drone technologies in UK and US
Military forces in the United Kingdom and the United States are advancing the deployment of counter-unmanned aerial systems (C-UAS) to protect personnel and bases from drone threats.
In the UK, the Halo Shield project has successfully deployed passive drone detection and counter-systems at the Warminster garrison in under six months. Funded by UK Defence Innovation for Army Innovation, the program utilizes technologies from Dedrone and Quell. These systems combine radiofrequency (RF) and optical detection to provide a comprehensive view of the airspace. During initial real-world testing, the system recorded 29 drone position alerts within a 5 km range.
In the US, DroneShield has achieved operational validation by installing its DroneSentry-X Mk2 systems on US Army Infantry Squad Vehicles. This milestone, part of a contract with the JIATF-401 interagency task force, marks a shift from static base protection toward highly mobile, interconnected solutions capable of operating in extreme field conditions. The technology is designed to integrate with various third-party effectors, such as high-energy lasers, to create a versatile electronic warfare toolkit.
