Military nonprofits provide millions in housing assistance to veterans

Nonprofit organizations are providing various forms of housing and financial assistance to military families and veterans.

Operation T. A. G. (Tangible Act of Gratitude) has announced more than $1.7 million in homebuying assistance through its Hometown Hero Credit program. Operating as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit under the High Desert Community Foundation, the program offers eligible veterans, active-duty service members, and Gold Star surviving spouses a credit equal to 2 percent of their loan amount, up to a maximum of $21,000. This non-repayable credit is available in 49 states through a lending partnership with PRMG.

Separately, the Operation Homefront Transitional Homes for Veterans program provides rent-free housing for up to two years to families within 10 years of military separation. The program aims to help veterans reduce debt, build savings, and improve credit scores through financial counseling and homeowner education to prepare them for permanent homeownership.
