Sarhad University: Army officer detained after firing shots during student protest

A Pakistani Army officer has been taken into custody following an incident at Sarhad University’s Rawat campus in Islamabad. The confrontation occurred during a student protest regarding fee increases, departmental leadership, and class schedules.

According to reports and viral video footage, a faculty member involved in a dispute with students reportedly called her husband, a military officer, to intervene. The officer arrived in uniform and allegedly assaulted students with a stick before firing a service pistol into the air as the situation escalated.

Journalist Hamid Mir reported that the Pakistan Army has taken immediate notice of the event and initiated an inquiry. Islamabad police also arrived at the scene to reassure students that legal action would be taken. The incident has sparked significant criticism on social media regarding the use of military authority in civilian academic settings.
