Military officer detained in Paraguay as school violence protests erupt in Argentina

In Paraguay, military justice authorities have ordered the preventive detention of Infantry Sub-lieutenant Ignacio Vera following an investigation at the Infantry School headquarters. Vera faces provisional charges including abuse of authority, assault, bribery, and serious breaches of military discipline. The investigation was triggered by reports of physical punishment and excessive punitive measures against subordinates.

The Supreme Court of Military Justice confirmed the detention, stating that investigations will proceed with independence and transparency to ensure strict adherence to the legal framework within military installations.

In Ensenada, Argentina, teachers and the local community held a strike and march following allegations of violence at Primary School No. 13. Parents filed police reports alleging that students were subjected to mistreatment, including being gagged with adhesive tape, denied bathroom use, and forced to kneel as part of a pedagogical practice. The local branch of the Unified Syndicate of Education Workers of Buenos Aires (SUTEBA) organized the protest to demand safer school environments and called for community reflection to resolve institutional conflicts without violence.
