Military Police of Mato Grosso uses sports for social transformation
The Military Police of Mato Grosso is utilizing sports as a strategic tool for social transformation and violence prevention in the Baixada Cuiabana region. Through the 1st and 2nd Regional Commands, the initiative serves at least 2,051 children and youths across Cuiabá, Várzea Grande, and Santo Antônio de Leverger.
Colonel André Wilian Doreleo, deputy commander-general, stated that the program aims to strengthen community ties and provide primary prevention against violence. The initiative includes various disciplines, such as football through the Grêmio Rotam school and martial arts.
A notable success of the program is jiu-jitsu athlete Túlio Filho, a member of the Rotam (Tactical Mobile Ostensive Patrol Battalion) since age eight. Filho recently achieved international recognition, winning a gold medal and the title of European Champion in Lisbon, Portugal, and later securing second place in the adult heavyweight category in 2025.
