Military police officer arrested for killing father-in-law in Guarulhos

A military police officer, Mateus Aureliano da Silva, was arrested after fatally shooting his father-in-law, Fábio de Lima, during a dispute in the Jardim Bela Vista neighborhood of Guarulhos.

The conflict reportedly began when a motorcycle was parked in front of a garage, obstructing the exit of a vehicle. According to police reports, the disagreement escalated from verbal arguments into a physical altercation. Silva claimed in his testimony that he acted in self-defense after the victim attempted to seize his weapon.

However, witnesses have contested this version of events. Some reports indicate that the officer fired at close range during the struggle. De Lima was struck in the abdomen and died at the scene despite medical assistance. Silva also sustained injuries during the incident and received medical treatment. Following a custody hearing, the officer's arrest was converted to preventive detention while the Civil Police continue their investigation.
