Military Police sergeant faces trial for killing wife and shooting daughter in Santos

A jury trial began in Santos, São Paulo, for Military Police Sergeant Samir do Nascimento Rodrigues de Carvalho, who is accused of murdering his wife and shooting his daughter.

The incident occurred in May 2024 at a medical clinic where the victim, Amanda Fernandes Carvalho, was waiting for a consultation with her 10-year-old daughter. Prosecutors allege that Carvalho entered the clinic, shot both women, and then stabbed Amanda 51 times. While the daughter survived after undergoing surgery, Amanda died at the scene.

The trial, held at the Santos Forum, involves the testimony of 13 witnesses and the interrogation of the defendant. The Public Ministry is seeking convictions for femicide involving aggravating factors such as domestic violence and the use of resources that prevented the victim's defense.
