Military readiness and pension reforms face scrutiny in NL and BE

In Belgium, Defense Minister Theo Francken has faced criticism over a new pension scheme for military personnel. In response to inquiries from representative Annick Ponthier, Francken stated he could not determine exactly when soldiers under the new regulations would be eligible for retirement, nor could he provide a ten-year outflow forecast. Critics argue the reform lacks clarity and may lead to the premature departure of experienced mid-level officers, potentially undermining the organization's stability.
