Pete Hegseth faces impeachment efforts and military policy pushback

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is facing significant political and internal challenges. House Democrats are preparing to vote on an impeachment resolution against him in mid-November, following allegations of violating war powers and involvement in extrajudicial killings. Some lawmakers have characterized him as a “dangerous war criminal.”

Internally, military review boards are reportedly resisting Hegseth’s directive to expel transgender service members. While Air Force boards have followed orders to discharge transgender airmen, Navy and Marine Corps boards have voted to retain service members in nine out of 12 cases, a move described by legal experts as a rejection of what they deem an unjust process.

Additionally, Hegseth’s office reportedly attempted to withdraw U.S. military support from an NFL game in Paris due to local protests, a move that was reversed following intervention by the State Department. The Department of Defense has since confirmed it is supporting the event.
