Military tech advances focus on drone detection and interception

New military technologies are being developed to address modern battlefield challenges, specifically regarding drone threats and soldier protection.

In Croatia, the company Šestan-Busch is developing a new generation of smart ballistic helmets. These helmets aim to function as a ‘computer on the soldier’s head,’ capable of detecting the sound of approaching drones, facilitating advanced communication, and collecting battlefield data. The company is also working on a hybrid helmet using aramid fibers and polyethylene to reduce weight by approximately 200 grams while improving protection.

In Ukraine, former Defense Minister Mihajlo Fedorov has introduced a new drone interceptor designed to counter high-speed Russian jet-powered drones, such as the Geran-5, which can reach speeds of 600 km/h. While currently pilot-operated, there are plans to fully automate these interceptors using artificial intelligence. The goal is to achieve mass production of these affordable solutions to ensure they can operate even when electronic warfare disrupts operator connections.
