Military unit in Nowa Dęba evacuated after mysterious package delivery
A mysterious package sent from Germany caused an emergency response at a Military Gendarmerie facility in Nowa Dęba, Poland, on September 30. Upon opening a postal envelope containing a postcard, seven individuals—six soldiers and one civilian—reported a sudden and severe deterioration in their health.
The incident triggered an immediate evacuation of 133 people from the building and the deployment of medical teams, the fire department, and specialized chemical-ecological rescue units. Three people were transported to a hospital for observation. While initial reports suggested a potential chemical or biological threat, the Military Gendarmerie later issued a statement clarifying that testing of the package has excluded the presence of chemical, biological, or radiological agents.
The Internal Security Agency (ABW) and the Military Counterintelligence Service (SKW) are investigating the circumstances of the delivery. The Military Prosecutor's Office in Rzeszów is also overseeing the case as authorities work to determine the nature of the incident.
