Dairy producers seek higher milk prices amid rising production costs

Dairy producers in various regions are facing rising production costs, leading to upward pressure on milk prices. In Haryana, India, farmers in districts such as Jind, Kurukshetra, and Rohtak are pushing for higher rates. Some local associations have announced plans to set buffalo milk at ₹100 per litre and cow milk at ₹80 per litre, citing steep increases in the costs of cattle feed, fodder, and labor.

In Switzerland, the industry organization BOM has revised its decision to freeze milk prices, moving toward a price increase to reflect rising production costs caused by drought and fodder shortages.

Additionally, market indicators suggest a potential rise in milk prices due to decreasing supply. Factors contributing to lower milk volumes include seasonal shifts, heat stress in cattle, and the spread of the Shamonda virus. In certain spot markets, milk prices have risen to approximately 48 cents per kg, while milk powder prices have also seen an upward trend.
