Milk producers in Osmaniye face bankruptcy due to rising costs
Milk producers in Yeşilyayla Village, located in the Sumbas district of Osmaniye, are reporting significant financial distress due to rising production costs. Farmers state that current milk prices are insufficient to cover the costs of essential inputs such as animal feed and fuel.
Producers noted that while milk prices have risen from approximately 10-11 lira last year to around 20-23 lira, the cost of feed has nearly doubled, with a bag of feed increasing from 400-500 lira to over 900 lira. Additionally, diesel prices have reached approximately 100 lira.
Local farmers report a sharp decline in livestock numbers. One producer mentioned his herd decreased from 15 to 8 cows, while another noted the village's total livestock count dropped from over 60 to 30. Producers are calling for milk prices to reach at least 30 lira per liter to ensure the sustainability of their livelihoods and prevent further livestock liquidation.
