Milk touted as a more effective hydration drink during extreme heat
Hungarian health experts explain that, unlike plain water, milk contains proteins, natural sugars, fats and sodium, which slow gastric emptying and allow the body to retain fluid longer. This makes milk a useful supplement for hydration during prolonged high temperatures or intensive physical activity. The advice also includes lactose‑free and plant‑based milks such as soy, which provide electrolytes, as well as other fluid‑rich foods like watermelon, cucumber and coconut water. While water remains the primary source of hydration, milk can help maintain fluid balance in demanding heat conditions.
