Mill Park Pétanque Club teaches sport to new generation

The Mill Park Pétanque Club in Augusta is working to introduce the game of pétanque to younger generations. Raymond Fecteau, an 82-year-old founder of the club, has focused on teaching the sport to others since retiring 17 years ago.

Recently, 16 students from a Mattanawcook Academy French class traveled from Lincoln to Augusta to participate in a lesson. Melanie Turner, a French teacher at the academy, organized the trip to help students connect with Franco culture through the sport. Students, including junior Eric Ayotte, practiced the nuances of tossing metal boules toward a target ball, known as a cochonet, on the club's crushed stone courts.
