Miller Bergman hospitalized after choking at VFL awards

Former North Melbourne defender Miller Bergman was hospitalized after choking on a piece of chicken during the Victorian Football League (VFL) awards ceremony on Monday night. Bergman, who currently plays for Casey, was able to breathe but was unable to clear the food from his throat, requiring assistance from coaches Rhett McLennan and David Main to leave the venue.

The awards night was also marked by an unusual J. J. Liston Trophy count. Trent Mynott of Frankston and George Stevens of Geelong were named joint winners with 22 votes. While other players, including Ben Hobbs and Jacob Dawson, polled higher votes, they were ineligible for the award due to suspensions. This marks the first time since 2003 that the trophy has not been awarded to the highest vote-getter.
