Milly Alcock confronts online hate before Supergirl premiere

Exactly 21 days before the June 26 debut of the film Supergirl, actress Milly Alcock (26) addresses the wave of toxic comments she has received on social media. In a Variety interview she describes the harassment as coming from anonymous "burner" accounts, often identifying themselves only as "father of four, Christian" or similar, and notes that such attacks are a familiar pattern for women in the industry. Alcock, who grew up with the internet, says the negativity is hard to ignore but urges others not to take it personally. She expresses excitement that the movie will inspire young women, despite the online backlash. DC Films head James Gunn called Alcock's casting his best ever, and colleague Peter Safran recalled DC director Chantal Nong crying when she first saw Alcock in costume.
