Milo Yiannopoulos detained by U.S. immigration officials
British political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos has been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Yiannopoulos entered the United States legally in May 2019 but overstayed his visa.
An immigration judge issued a final order of removal on July 22 after Yiannopoulos failed to appear for a scheduled immigration hearing. He is currently being held in federal custody in Alexandria, Louisiana, a major hub for deportation operations, pending his removal from the country.
Yiannopoulos, a prominent far-right figure and former Breitbart News editor, has been a vocal supporter of strict immigration enforcement and Donald Trump’s immigration policies. His arrest has drawn significant attention due to the irony of his detention by the very agency he frequently championed. He was most recently known for his professional association with the rapper Ye.
