Miloš Zeman considers future presidential candidacy
Former Czech President Miloš Zeman has indicated that he is considering a potential return to the presidency in the future. In recent interviews, Zeman stated that the prospect of candidacy still appeals to him “in a corner of my soul,” though he acknowledged the challenges posed by his age. He noted that his “alter ego” cautions him against becoming a “Czech Biden,” referencing the age-related scrutiny faced by the U.S. President.
Regarding the political landscape, Zeman characterized current President Petr Pavel as a leader of the opposition. He also expressed skepticism toward public opinion polls that categorize Prime Minister Andrej Babiš as an opposition figure, calling such a classification “absurd.”
President Petr Pavel responded to the news by noting that while Zeman had previously stated he would not run again, he has also said that “only a fool changes his mind.” Pavel remarked that it is positive that Zeman feels healthy enough to consider such a path and offered him well wishes for his health.
