Milorad Dodik challenges U.S. sanctions in Florida court

Milorad Dodik, his son Igor Dodik, and several associates have filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), and other high-ranking officials. The plaintiffs are challenging the legality of previous U.S. sanctions imposed on them, arguing that the decisions did not follow proper procedures and questioning the validity of documents that lacked the President's personal signature, using electronic signatures instead.

Although the sanctions against Dodik and his associates were lifted in October 2025, the legal challenge seeks to contest the manner in which they were originally implemented. In response, the U.S. government, including the President and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, has filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit.

A Florida judge has granted Dodik’s legal team an extension to respond to the government's motion for dismissal. The plaintiffs have until August 25 to submit an objection in an attempt to prevent the case from being dismissed in its early stages.
