Milton Leite remains in custody amid PCC transport investigation
Milton Leite, former president of the São Paulo Municipal Chamber, remains in custody following a custody hearing on Saturday. Leite is a central figure in Operation Vectura Corrupta, an investigation by the Civil Police and the Public Prosecutor's Office into the infiltration of the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) criminal organization within São Paulo's public bus transport system.
Leite, who had been considered a fugitive after failing to be located during initial searches, surrendered to authorities at the Drug Investigation Police Station in Mogi das Cruzes on Friday. During searches conducted at a property in Sorocaba linked to the politician, authorities discovered a secret passage connecting two buildings and seized approximately R$ 280,000 and US$ 89,000 in cash.
The investigation suggests that the PCC may control at least 12 of the 22 bus companies operating in the capital. Leite has denied all allegations, maintaining his innocence and stating he will use the legal process to prove he has no ties to the criminal organization or the companies under investigation.
