Milton Wray ordered to restrict YouTube videos in defamation case
The Supreme Court of Jamaica has issued an interim injunction ordering blogger Milton “119” Wray to make seven YouTube videos private. The order comes in response to a defamation claim filed by Patrice Hussey-Malcolm, the widow of broadcaster Dervan Malcolm.
Justice Tara Carr granted the injunction, which requires Wray to restrict access to the videos, including any copies, edits, or reuploads, within 24 hours of being served. Wray must also take all possible steps to prevent further distribution of the material. Additionally, by October 23, Wray is required to submit an affidavit detailing the extent of the publications, including posting dates, platforms used, and the identities of recipients to whom the material was forwarded.
Hussey-Malcolm filed the lawsuit on September 18, alleging that the publications caused her reputational damage and led to harassment and distress. She is seeking damages, a formal apology, and a correction. Wray, who represented himself at the hearing, described his decision not to contest the injunction as a tactical move, stating, “I am playing chess, they are playing checkers.”
The injunction is a temporary measure and does not constitute a final ruling on whether defamation occurred. A pre-trial review and case management session are scheduled for April 22, 2027.
