Milwaukee 99-year-old woman attacked; 911 response delayed three hours

A 99-year-old woman in Milwaukee survived a violent home invasion. Multiple 911 calls were placed early on Monday, including a live audio feed from inside the home where the attacker shouted, “Shut the … up.” Despite the calls, no police, fire or EMS units were dispatched for nearly three hours. The victim finally called 911 herself around 7:50 a.m., and responders arrived shortly after 8 a.m.

Milwaukee Department of Emergency Communications placed the two dispatchers who handled the earlier calls on paid administrative leave while a full investigation proceeds. Department director Tony Bueno said the calls were not treated with the required urgency and the review may lead to policy or procedural changes. Alderman Scott Spiker called for accountability, questioning whether the issue was a simple mistake or deeper systemic problems. The 22‑year‑old suspect was arrested, and the elderly victim is expected to survive.
