Mimie Mathy faces backlash over comments regarding Patrick Bruel

French actress Mimie Mathy has faced significant backlash following her comments regarding singer Patrick Bruel, who is facing allegations of rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassment. Mathy stated on RTL that Bruel should be presumed innocent until the justice system reaches a verdict, suggesting he may have been ‘more harassed than harasser.’ She also expressed concern over the economic impact of Bruel’s decision to cancel his anniversary tour, noting it could affect approximately 200 technicians.

In response to the criticism, Mathy clarified her position in an interview with Le Parisien, stating, ‘I am not taking sides and I respect all victims.’ She emphasized the importance of allowing the legal process to conclude and noted that Bruel is currently surrounded by his family and friends. She also commented on the cancellation of the tour, suggesting Bruel likely did not want his audience to face disruption during performances.

Media personality Sam Zirah criticized Mathy’s remarks, accusing her of lacking empathy for the women who came forward with accusations. Zirah described her comments as ‘disconnected’ and argued that she failed to acknowledge the weight of the 32 accusations currently facing the artist.
