Mimie Mathy reveals loss of mobility due to cauda equina syndrome

French actress Mimie Mathy has revealed that she has been unable to walk for six months due to cauda equina syndrome. In an interview on TF1’s ‘Sept à Huit’, the 69-year-old star shared that her condition is linked to her achondroplasia, a genetic condition that affects bone growth and can cause spinal stenosis.

Mathy explained that she has undergone four surgeries to widen her spinal canal and relieve nerve pressure, but medical professionals have indicated that further surgical interventions are no longer possible due to the risks involved. She stated, “Unless there is a miracle, I will not walk again.”

Cauda equina syndrome is a rare but serious neurological condition caused by the compression of nerve roots at the base of the spinal cord. This can lead to severe motor dysfunction, loss of sensation, and bladder or bowel issues. Mathy noted that she is adapting to her new reality using an electric wheelchair and intends to continue her professional career, including developing new projects that incorporate her mobility needs.
