Mimika Police investigate alleged hostage-taking of nine women in Jila

Police in Mimika Regency, Central Papua, are investigating reports that an armed group has allegedly taken nine female civilians hostage in the Jila District. The incident is reported to have occurred on Tuesday, August 18.

Mimika Police Chief AKBP Alredo Agustinus Rumbiak stated that the information was initially provided by local residents to the Jila Police Sector. However, authorities have not yet obtained direct eyewitness testimony or the specific identities of the alleged victims. Police are currently working to verify the reports and confirm the whereabouts of the individuals involved.

Verification efforts face significant logistical challenges due to the geography of the Jila District. Located in a remote mountainous region, the area is difficult to access and can typically only be reached via small aircraft.
