Mimmo Nunnari releases new book honoring writer Corrado Alvaro

Journalist Mimmo Nunnari is releasing a new book titled ‘Corrado Alvaro e la lezione americana sull’Italia del Sud’ through Rubbettino Editore. The work features a dedication to San Luca, the birthplace of the renowned writer Corrado Alvaro, described as being for the ‘honest and hardworking and forgotten people of San Luca.’

Nunnari aims to challenge prejudices regarding San Luca, which is often generalized as a mafia-dominated community. He argues that the town’s struggles are a symptom of the historical divide between Northern and Southern Italy and the perceived failure of national institutions to support the region.

The book includes an appendix featuring a nearly unknown 1954 essay by Alvaro originally published in the Harvard University magazine ‘Confluence.’ In that essay, Alvaro reflects on his Calabrian roots and his upbringing in the Aspromonte mountains.
