Min Aung Hlaing arrives in Russia for official talks with Vladimir Putin

Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing has arrived in Russia for an official visit, marking his first trip to the country since assuming the presidency in April. He is scheduled to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin to discuss bilateral cooperation in security, economy, and social affairs.

The visit aims to strengthen strategic ties between the two nations, which maintain close defense and energy relationships. Key areas of cooperation include the construction of a small-scale nuclear power plant in Myanmar with Rosatom and investment in the Dawei Special Economic Zone, following a memorandum signed in February 2025.

Min Aung Hlaing's trip also includes participation in a Myanmar-Russia business forum. This diplomatic effort follows a series of recent visits to India, China, Laos, and Thailand as the administration seeks greater international legitimacy following a widely criticized election.
