MINAC Constanța exhibits historic Franco-Russian Alliance jug

The National History and Archaeology Museum of Constanța (MINAC) is featuring a limited-edition majolica jug as its exhibit for October 2026. Produced between 1894 and 1895, the 24 cm tall vessel serves as a piece of political and military propaganda celebrating the Franco-Russian Alliance.

The hand-painted jug features rich relief decorations, including an image of a French and a Russian soldier shaking hands to symbolize mutual support against the German Empire. The piece also displays the flags and initials of France and Russia, alongside military symbols and floral motifs. The exterior is finished in cobalt blue with pastel glazes, while the interior features a pink glaze.

Markings on the base identify the manufacturer as Opaque de Wasmuël and Auguste Mouzin & Cie. The object was historically used as a patriotic souvenir to demonstrate public support for the alliance that ended France's diplomatic isolation.
