Minamiaso Village launches pre-purchase platform for farmers

The Minamiaso Village Industry-Academia-Government Collaboration Council has launched ‘Sakigai Marche’ (Sakimaru), a new sales platform based on a ‘pre-purchase’ concept. This initiative allows consumers to purchase agricultural and livestock products, such as rice and Kumamoto Akaushi beef, before they are harvested.

The goal is to stabilize producer income by protecting them from fluctuations caused by weather and other environmental factors. Professor Hiroyuki Kishi of Keio University, who has worked on solving issues surrounding Akaushi beef production, participated in the announcement, emphasizing the need to transform agricultural business models into sustainable forms.

The platform's initial offerings include Kikuchi rice, Kumamoto Akaushi beef, and Amakusa Daio poultry. The initiative also includes benefits such as agricultural experiences for members to promote food education. Producers in areas previously affected by natural disasters have expressed hope that such pre-purchase systems will provide vital financial security during difficult periods.
