Minamiuonuma celebrates autumn harvest with new rice and local gourmet
Minamiuonuma, a renowned rice-producing region in Niigata Prefecture, is entering its peak autumn season, highlighting local specialties such as new Koshihikari rice and seasonal mushrooms.
Local producers like Sekike Farm are emphasizing sustainable cultivation methods, including the use of homemade fermented organic fertilizer. Visitors can experience these flavors at the FARM FRONT direct sales office, which offers rice cooked in clay pots.
The region is also hosting the ‘Minamiuonuma Majidon’ campaign, featuring 55 different original rice bowls created by 48 local restaurants. Additionally, the ‘Onigiri & Mushroom Soup Festival’ will be held at the Muikamachi Hakkaisan Ski Resort from September 19 to November 15, allowing visitors to enjoy fresh rice and Uonuma mushrooms against a backdrop of autumn foliage.
