Minas Gerais approves updated State Water Resources Plan

The Minas Gerais State Water Resources Council (CERH-MG) has approved the updated State Water Resources Plan (PERH-MG). This strategic instrument, formalized via Normative Deliberation No. 100 on September 29, 2026, is designed to guide water planning and management across the state for a 20-year period spanning 2026 to 2045.

Developed by the Minas Gerais Institute for Water Management (Igam) in collaboration with the State Secretariat for Environment and Sustainable Development (Semad), the plan is organized into three volumes: a foundational framework, a diagnostic and prognostic analysis of current and future water scenarios, and an operational action plan detailing short, medium, and long-term measures.

The plan aims to ensure water availability in terms of both quantity and quality through integrated and sustainable management. It specifically addresses regional challenges such as unequal water distribution, particularly in semi-arid regions, and the rising demand driven by diverse economic and social uses.
