Judge Milton Lívio Lemos Salles removed following misconduct in virtual session
Judge Milton Lívio Lemos Salles of the Court of Justice of Minas Gerais (TJMG) has been removed from his duties following a video showing him consuming wine from a bottle and smoking with a blowtorch during a virtual judicial session. The incident, which occurred during a remote hearing for the 4th Judicial Nucleus of Civil Family, led to the immediate suspension of his judicial credentials and access to court systems.
Following the incident, Salles released a video accusing the TJMG, the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), the Supreme Federal Court (STF), and Minister Alexandre de Moraes of corruption. He also made allegations regarding irregular vehicle purchases within the Minas Gerais court. In response, the TJMG Special Body voted unanimously to maintain his removal, and the National Council of Justice (CNJ) also ordered his suspension.
Additional disciplinary measures include the suspension of his right to carry firearms, a ban on using official vehicles, and a prohibition from entering court facilities. The Corregedoria-Geral de Justiça has opened a formal investigation into his conduct. Judicial processes previously under Salles's responsibility are being redistributed to other judges.
