Brazil: Various judicial rulings address civil rights and labor disputes
Multiple Brazilian courts have issued rulings involving civil rights, labor protections, and medical negligence.
In labor law, a court in Minas Gerais ordered a retailer to indemnify a former employee for R$ 7,000 after she was forced to record promotional videos in revealing clothing. In another case, a worker in Manaus was awarded R$ 30,000 in damages after being physically assaulted by a former supervisor while seeking severance pay. Additionally, a São Paulo court ordered a lawyer and his firm to return approximately R$ 3 million to a client.
Regarding healthcare and disability, the Federal Public Ministry recommended that medical services in Feijó, Acre, not be denied to indigenous people lacking documentation. In Rio Grande do Sul, a researcher is challenging the Federal Institute (IFRS) in court after being denied a teaching position due to the lack of specialized medical infrastructure in the assigned city.
In civil liability, the Minas Gerais Court of Justice increased an indemnity to R$ 7,000 for a patient who suffered anaphylactic shock due to the administration of dipyrone despite documented allergies. Conversely, a court acquitted a plastic surgeon accused of malpractice, finding no evidence of negligence in his surgical techniques.
