Minas Gerais Football Federation announces 2027 championship format
The Minas Gerais Football Federation (FMF) and participating clubs have established the format for the 2027 Campeonato Mineiro. The competition will feature a structural change, moving from three groups to two groups of six teams each.
In the first phase, teams will face opponents from the opposing group. The top four teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals, which, along with the semi-finals and the final, will be played in a home-and-away format. Cruzeiro, the current champion, and Atlético, the current runner-up, have been designated as top seeds.
Group A includes Atlético, Pouso Alegre, North, Tombense, Betim, and Villa Nova. Group B consists of Cruzeiro, América, URT, Uberlândia, Minas do Sul, and Democrata.
Additional regulatory changes include reducing the rest period between matches from 66 to 63 hours, implementing hydration breaks, and removing the limit on athlete registrations. Furthermore, the number of technical staff members allowed on the bench will increase from six to eight, and yellow cards will be reset following the first phase.
